Literacy Success Story

Before Marcia started attending ESL classes, she was lonely and isolated due to her lack of English skills. She attended Literacy of Northern New York's ESL classes at Fort Drum for the past year and a half, and now she understands and speaks English much better. Marcia volunteers at Fort Drum's United Service Organization, participates in a sewing group and recently obtained a job at Sam's Club.

Marcia's advice to other students is to participate in activities in the community even if you don't know anyone. There is always someone to talk to. Marcia has made many friends by participating in ESL class and enjoys giving back to the community while volunteering at the U.S.O.
