Literacy New York is Celebrating "Giving Tuesday"!
by Literacy New YorkTuesday, December 3, 2019 has been designated as "Giving Tuesday", a day following "Black Friday", "Small Business Saturday" and "Cyber Monday" that encourages people to give to causes they believe in-- a celebration of donation! Literacy NY has decided to focus our "Giving Tuesday" efforts on building the Janice Cuddahee Fund. This newly created fund honors our dear friend and colleague, Janice Cuddahee, sadly lost to cancer this past year.
Janice believed in building literate communities, and she believed in the power of volunteers. The Janice Cuddahee Fund will be used to support volunteers participating in online tutor training, which will make it possible for them to teach adult learners in their communities: basic literacy, math, English language, and employability skills. Our initial fundraising goal is $55,000, which will allow us to underwrite more than 100 tutor training classes across New York State, enriching more than 100 communities. Please join us in making this happen!
