Literacy New York's Executive Director, Kathy Houghton, joined colleagues from the New York City Coalition for Adult Literacy for a day of visits with legislative offices and the New York State Department of Education's Adult Education division in Albany this week. We met with several NYS Senate and Assembly staff members to talk about the great need for continued support for Adult Literacy Education (ALE) funding in New York State. Kevin Smith, pictured with the group here, is the Deputy Commissioner for Adult Career and Continuing Education Services. We appreciate the time he took with our group, and the encouragement he provided as we continue to fight for funding for adults in need of literacy services.
