State Digital Equity Scorecard
Emerging technologies and the changing global economy demand that people have at least basic digital skills in order to be employed, fully participate in society, and access essential resources. Many state governments have risen to the challenge to help skill up their residents to meet this demand, but more needs to be done. This Scorecard shows the extent to which states are addressing digital equity.
New York State scored 1.8 out of a possible 6 points
There are 681,773 unemployed individuals in New York [1], of which at least 224,985 lack foundational digital skills [2]. These individuals may not even begin to compete for an estimated 359,136 or 77.3% of job openings which require such skills [3]. The level of federal dislocated worker funding available to New York in FY22 will support only an estimated 2.0% of unemployed workers [4].
Literacy New York supported programs will soon be providing digital literacy education using the Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum. We will be providing free virtual skills training to adults across the state-- we will let you know when our sites are up and running. Literacy New York is looking forward to playing a part in building Digital Equity!
