Literacy Services Change Lives

Wed, Jun 12th 2019 09:10 am

According to Casandra Beam, CEO of the Ulster Literacy Association, the men came to Ulster Literacy four months ago and were paired with two tutors. One of the tutors knew a local hardware store owner, and introduced them. So both young men are now working - legally - in the store and learning English with their tutors and on the job. We heard yesterday that the store owner is going to provide them with an attached apartment, so they no longer have to ride their bikes to work.

And in a further positive development: when the FBI gets involved with trafficking stings, survivors are given many legal protections, including the ability to bring their families to the US to live with them permanently. So in the future, these men will be reunited with their loved ones, living safely, working and voting and paying taxes. Kind of miraculous, that lives can be improved so dramatically.
