My student and her family received refugee status and were allowed to come to the United States in 2008.  She had a limited vocabulary in English and didn't know much about American idioms or customs.  She improved her English skills so much, she was able to enroll at the State University, where she worked in the college's admissions office and the library. A hardworking and successful student, she graduated with the highest academic honors, obtaining a bachelor's degree in finance.
