My student moved here from Montreal, Canada, with her husband and two children.  She taught French in Montreal, but needed to learn English in order to find a job here.  She made use of every opportunity to learn: one-on-one, conversation groups, and workshops on banking, health, civics, and community resources.  Within six months, she was hired by the State College to serve as a translator.  Within the year, she taught high school French in a public school.
